The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
